My Profile

I was born in 1958 and after taking A levels I went to Loughborough College of Art and Design where I initially completed a Foundation Course in Art. I stayed at Loughborough and graduated in 1980 with an Honours Degree in Three Dimensional Design. Following a short career in Furniture Design I went to Leicester Polytechnic to study for a PGCE in Art and Design Education.

Since 1985 I have been a teacher of Design and Technology, teaching Resistant Materials, Ceramics, Art, Food Technology and Textiles to GCSE and A level. I currently teach at Leicester Grammar School, where I teach Design and Technology.

Following a visit to an Exhibition of Botanical Art by the Birmingham Society of Botanical Artists in September 2006, I was encouraged to take up Botanical Painting. I was invited to join the Leicester Floral Artists Society in October 2006.

I am also Secretary of the Institute of Analytical Plant Illustration, (IAPI) a group of botanists and botanical artists who meet at the Winterbourne Gardens in Birmingham and various other venues throughout the Country, which I joined in January 2007.

In May 2007 I submitted six Botanical Paintings to the Leicester Society of Botanical Illustrators and was accepted into the Society.

In February 2009 following an inaugural lecture, ‘Florilegiums – Past and Present’ by Botanical Artist, Valerie Oxley, The Leicester Grammar School Florilegium was launched – a society which I set up to document the Flora on the new school site in Great Glen, Leicestershire.
